Meeting Info

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) invite the public to participate in their Monday, December 11th meeting on the Environmental Assessment (EA) of improvements to transform Southeast Boulevard and Barney Circle. This area connects 11th Street SE with Pennsylvania Avenue SE west of the John Philip Sousa Bridge. This process offers a chance to redesign the boulevard and circle while advancing the District’s larger Anacostia Waterfront Initiative (AWI) Program goals to improve transportation options for everyone and strengthen communities along the river. DDOT is holding a second public meeting to share draft concepts and engage stakeholders in an interactive activity to gather feedback to incorporate into the Southeast Boulevard and Barney Circle plans.

The purpose of this meeting is to update the community on progress made since the last public meeting on September 16, show draft concepts for feedback, and provide an opportunity for the community to give input on the Southeast Boulevard and Barney Circle designs. This will be done through an interactive group activity, rather than an open house-style event. The group activity will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m., so community members are encouraged to arrive on time.

Please visit www.seboulevard.com for more information on the project.

Project Background
This Environmental Assessment is a critical step toward gaining the approvals and community input needed to continue advancing a project to modify the existing Southeast Boulevard and Barney Circle. The EA will consider natural, cultural, and human environmental resources, as well as potential local and regional travel changes.

Study Area
The study area lies between the 11th Street Bridge and Barney Circle, south of the Capitol Hill neighborhood, in close proximity to the Anacostia River and just north of Boathouse Row.
